Serving Leaders and Leadership Systems in Not-for-Profit Communities
Shepherd Consulting's mission is to provide a supportive space for Christian communities and organizations that will produce a flourishing environment via the following critical steps:
Denial may feel good in the short run, but it seldom succeeds in the long run. Leaders have the responsibility to face reality, regardless of how frightening or overwhelming it may be. And any consultant worth their fees will do just that: help you face reality. Besides, 'defining reality' is the premier lesson of leadership guru, Max DePree.
As the quote says: 'Faith without works is dead.' Works without faith are dead, too. That is why Shepherd Consulting emphasizes strong people of character and praxis being integrated into all efforts. All of our associates have been top-level leaders in their field and will honour their work with integrity. Our work will be as much faith praxis as business acumen.
An organization that has the right people who have the right mindset, the right skills, and the right character can face almost any reality with courage and creativity. They can speak the truth to one another, in love. They can generate a compelling vision together. They can identify the best ways to move towards accomplishing that vision. A good consultant can not only be a valuable member of your team but he or she can also help assess if you have the team you need to hit the target you are aiming for.
You have heard of a “shared vision,” right? In reality, it is easier to get to a shared vision than it is to get to shared priorities. This is because the vision answers the question, “Where are we going?” but the priorities address the question: “How will we get there?” A skilled consultant can help guide your focus as you collaborate, evaluate, and select the most strategic priorities.
Hellen Keller is thought to have said: “A vision without action is only a dream.” Whether she said it or not, it is true. Some leaders, boards, and teams can be incapacitated by anxiety. This anxiety can be shaped by fear of losing their jobs, fear of making a mistake, or just plain lack of guts! A consultant can guide (and sometimes even push) your team to take action, including deciding on hiring, termination, priorities, implementation, etc. Quite often, once a breakthrough decision is made, movement within the organization will once again start to flow.
Many consultants have expertise; or claim they do. At Shepherd, we are vigilant that the people associated with us are experts in their field and have spent years practicing the craft. I would not dare to do any of this work had I not been involved in charitable, faith-based based or secular leadership and been educated and certified in governance and leadership. With this kind of expertise comes trust.
Hope is the fuel that enables people to endure tough circumstances, and it is the job of leaders to spread hope to their members. We do not simply leave you to your devices but live on by maintaining a relationship of servanthood with you for years to come. Shepherd helps you face reality and remains with you through the hope that lies ahead.
And now that you are a part of Shepherd's family, we have created strategic partnerships that will provide Shepherd's clients unsurpassable pricing on bookkeeping and tax services, moving forward.
